We're gearing up for fall and taking a look at a few of our favorite color combos - the pairing of the perfect design with the perfect piece.
Black, White and Pink
On these racing-inspired pieces we created for University of Washington Alpha Delta Pi, we went with a classic black + white pattern with a touch of pink. We switched the ink out on the screen print for the black shirt versus the white, so, as you can see, what's black on the pink shirt is white on the black shirt, and vice versa.
Both designs would look great on white, grey or various shades of pink, but opting for black and light pink was the way to go. Why? Black allows the design to truly pop, and light pink allows the design to not only be completely clean and visible, but for the hot pink portion of the design to not get lost, as it would in a brighter or darker shade.
Looking for a the perfect shade of light pink in a long sleeve? We recommend the Comfort Colors 6014 Long Sleeve in Blossom.
Shades of Blue-Green
The lion design we created for West Virginia University Delta Gamma pops because of the color tank we chose together. Sure, this would look great on a black, white or even teal tank, but so much of the design's detail in those colors would get lost. Instead, we opted for this comfy unisex tank in a soft yet bright blue that pulls the blue-green tones out of the design.
Looking for the perfect shade of blue in a unisex tank? We recommend the Comfort Colors 9360 Tank in Lagoon.
Reverse Colors on 2 Styles
This is similar to what we did on UW ADPi's racing shirts, where we offered two color options and switched out the ink on both. For this order of College Hill staff gear, we wanted to offer a darker, more subtle version of our iconic College Hill teal, so we based the color print for the white sweatshirt on the garment color of the teal one. That resulted in utilizing a darker teal ink that nearly perfectly matched the teal hoodie! This is important for group events and photos, when you want to have some contrast, but still want everyone to match and feel like they're sporting the same gear.
These are two of our go-to pieces because they're affordable, comfortable and come in a slew of great colors. We recommend the Port & Company Fleece Hoodie PC78H (shown here in teal) and the Port & Company Fleece Crewneck PC78 (shown here in white).
Working with a brand that has strict guidelines? Before taking liberties with design or garment choices, ask if their branding guide provides a color wheel of additional approved brand colors! For instance, we have a specific "College Hill teal," but our branding guide allows for quite a few color variations in shades of teal, white, grey and black. We pulled this design's teal from one of our alternate wheels!
