Philanthropy can easily seem like one of those things that comes as just a small segment of Greek life. However, I'm here to tell you how your impact can amplify by simply learning more about your cause and teaming up with College Hill.
I am most familiar with the national philanthropy of the Phi Kappa Tau, which donates to The Serious Fun Network. Serious Fun Camps are set up to provide children with serious illnesses with an unbelievable camp experience and high-quality medical care. For many children, it offers a chance to get away from the confines of their life to go to a summer camp and have fun. For the parents, it opens many up to a community facing huge challenges, and can create a large support system for many people. For all parties, they are delivered unforgettable experiences that have a life changing impact.
My Fraternity has been lucky enough to send a few of our members to the Serious Fun Camps over the past few years as volunteers, and every person that goes returns glowing with pride. There is a sense of achievement knowing what you are accomplishing when you raise money for something as special as these camps. When you get to see your chapters efforts out there in the real world, affecting real people, it truly motivates you that much more to get involved and stay involved.
Whether you are holding a bake sale, or if you as a chapter walk for 8 miles to raise money; it all makes a difference. Greek chapters have so much to be proud of when they are raising money for their philanthropy. Each cause is just as important as the next and it's amazing to see what we can do.
For a group of college students that are on a budget, with tough school and work schedules, we still find time every few months to come together and put on an event that can positively impact so many people’s lives and I'm proud to be apart of that.
