March is Women's History Month! We take this time to honor the legacies of the women who came before us and to help prepare for future women who will come after us. Today, many inspiring women are picking up where ambitious women have left off! Let's prioritize educating ourselves and supporting the women in our lives!

1. Greta Thunberg

If you use social media or watch the news, you are most likely to have heard or seen the name Greta Thunberg come across your screen. She is a teenage climate activist from Sweden who has become the face of the youth climate movement. She began sitting outside the Swedish parliament every Friday, instead of going to school, as part of the climate strike. Thunberg has set up a nonprofit foundation for her #FridaysForFuture campaign. She has also been named as TIME's Person of the Year in 2019 and been nominated for a Nobel Prize 3 years in a row!

2. Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman is most recently known from her incredible poem that she read at President Biden's inauguration: "The Hill We Climb." But, you might also know of her from her equally impressive appearance at the 2021 Super Bowl where she became the first poet ever to perform at this event. She is a Los Angeles native and Harvard graduate. Gorman became internationally lauded for her talent, poise, and activism work for racial and gender equality, as well as youth literacy. She was also the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate!

3. Megan Rapinoe

Megan Rapinoe is an American professional soccer player who famously lead the U.S. Women's National Soccer team to become World Cup Champions in 2019. She is also a women's rights advocate who has taken on the task of fighting for equal pay in sports. In the past, she helped the U.S. Women's National Soccer team file a lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation for alleged gender discrimination. They claimed that their male counterparts on the Men's National Team earned far more than they do, despite their extreme difference in national rankings.

4. Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay is a writer, producer, director and distributor of independent film. She has shaken up the film industry with directional works that include films such as Selma, 13th, When They See Us, and many others! Her powerful projects focus on fighting for justice, as well as educating people around the world. In 2012, at the U.S. dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival, DuVernay won the directing award for her film Middle of Nowhere. She became the first black woman to win this award!

5. Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris is an American politician and attorney serving as the 49th Vice President of the United States. She recently became the United States' first female Vice President, the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, and the first African American and South Asian Vice President. All in all, she holds many firsts! She has reached the very pinnacle of political power and achievement, and has paved the way for women who are inspired by her hard word, dedication, focus, and resolve! Harris attributes her strong sense of justice and activism to her parents. She is truly a modern woman and an inspiration to us all: the first, but not the last!
